The prostate surgery is done to relieve
the moderate to severe symptoms caused by enlarged prostate. In prostate surgery,
the scope is inserted into the tube that carries urine from bladder. Then a
laser is passed through the tube to shrink or remove the excess tissue that
blocks the bladder and prevents the urine flow. There are different types of
prostate laser surgeries.
In photo selective vaporization of the
prostate tissue, the laser is used to vaporize excess enlarged prostate tissue.
This vaporization then enlarges the urine tract. In another type of surgery,
known as holmium laser ablation of prostate, a different type of laser is used
to vaporize the enlarged tissue. In the third type of surgery, the laser is
used to cut the enlarged prostate tissue, which blocks the urethra. This
surgery is known as holmium laser enucleation of the prostate. In this surgery,
the cut enlarged tissue is then further chopped into smaller pieces to remove
it easily. This chopping of enlarged tissue into smaller piece is done by an
instrument called morcellator.
The type of laser, which the urologist
will select for the surgery, will depend on the health of the patient, the size
of the prostate gland and availability of the laser in the hospital.
The use of laser surgery has many
advantages over other traditional methods for prostate issue. The first benefit
is that the chance of bleeding is very low. That makes use of laser for surgery,

disorder must also have the laser surgery. The duration of laser surgery is
very short compare to other methods and it can be done on outpatient bases. The
patient only has to stay for few hours in the hospital. The period of recovery
is also short and the need for catheter is only for less than 24 hours. The
catheter is used to drain urine from the bladder. After the laser surgery, the desired results
can be seen within same day, while in case of other methods, it may take
several days or weeks, before the ease in urine discharge can be noticed.
